CaliforniumIt's History!Californium was first discovered in 1950, in the University of California,in Berkeley. Also the scientists who discovered Californium, discovered Berkelium too! The scientists were Stanley Thompson,Kenneth Street Jr., Albert Ghiorso, and Glenn T. Seaborg. They discovered it by bombarding curium- 242 with alpha particles resulting Californium-245. Most of the credit went to Glenn T. Seaborg, who won the 1951 Noble Prize in Chemistry for "discoveries in the chemistry of the transuranium elements". He also contributed in the discovery of ten elements total. And he also had an element named after him.(Seaborgium/Sg)

Why is Californium important
Californium is important because it is used for oil, and that is how we fuel are cars. It is also used by inspecting airline baggage, the luggage can be tested quickly without having to open the bag.Californium has many other uses, but I think the most important one is it can be used for medicine. When injected into the body, it is put into the bones. The radiation it gives can be used, to determine the health of the bone. It is also used to treat ovarian and cervical cancer.
Californium's Uses
Californium is used for oil, and for inspecting luggage before you get on a flight. It can also be used to determine the moisture in soil.( Which is very important to road builders and construction companies.) It can be injected into the body to see if your bones are healthy. Also for treating ovarian and cervical cancer. It is also used for Neutron moisture gauges, and a portable neutron source in Gold and Silver prospecting.
