The element of neon, or Ne is a gas that can be found in:

Neon is a non-metal gas with no natural color, smell,or taste. Neon is also part of The Noble Gases. The Noble Gases are a group of gases in the Periodic Table that are considered "the most stable elements". Due to having the maximum number of electrons their outer shell can hold. This allows them to rarely react with other elements, since they are already stable. The Noble gases also all conduct electricity (including neon.)
Neon also has 10 protons and electrons and about 10 neutrons.
Because neon is a gas it has no taste, smell, or color (how ever, when neon is ionized it turns to a bright red/reddish orange colored light.)
**** Ionized: converting an atom into ions by removing one or more electrons.

Neon was discovered by two men by the names of Sir William Ramsay(a Scottish chemist) and Morris M. Travers(a English chemist) in 1898 during the study of liquefied air. Liquefied air is ordinary air that has been liquefied by compression and cooling to extremely low temperatures.
It's good that neon was discovered because neon plays a big part in lots of black light effects and advertisement signs that light up. I think the bright light that neon gives off is really cool.
The bright light isn't the only cool thing about neon thought, neon's name comes from the Greek word "new": neos. Another cool thing about neon is that when it's combined with Helium it can make a Helium-Neon laser. Neon has so many cool things and facts about it. Some of those cool facts can be found in neon's physical properties. A few of them are that neon will melt at the point of -415.46 degrees fahrenheit and neon will boil at the point of -410.94 degrees fahrenheit. Neon has a density of 0.825 kilograms.
- Neon advertising signs(usually red or orange)
- Hight voltage indicators( a warning for a electrician of a hot power line)
- The air that we breath
- The Earth's atmosphere(1 part per 65,000 of the Earth's atmosphere is made of neon)
- Rocks of the Earth's crust
- Black light paints
- LED video panel lights
- Glow lamps http://viva.liveworldly.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/neon-signs.jpg
