(It's 10:30 at school. You are in Ms.Suzy Q.'s science class. You are learning about the Periodic Table. Each day is a different element today, you're learning about Mercury.)
Teacher: Hello my name is Suzy Q.Welcome to my science class. Today we are learning about the Periodic Table. Our element today is Mercury. Can anyone name some Facts about Mercury before we start?
Johnny: I can! Mercury is used in batteries and it is in tuna, Thermometers,Barometers,Advertising signs,*Fluorescent Lamps.
Teacher: Very good Johnny, you named more than I expected you to do. Can anyone name more?
Taylor: I can too! Mercury can also be used in *Diffusion pumps.
Teacher: Okay class, you named enough. Now let's start the lesson.
Teacher: Ok from this picture what can you learn or see about Mercury?
Emily: Well, I can see that Mercury's Atomic mass is 200.59.
Taylor: I can see that Mercury is a Liquid.
Darren: The color is a Slivery white and the Atomic number is 80.
Ben:The name of the picture is Mercury and the Chemical symbol is Hg.
Teacher: Okay class, you did a very good job. Now lets start with the history of Mercury. Mercury was discovered around the year 1500 B.C., but no one knows who the discoverer was. However, it was known by the ancients. How it was discovered is unknown too. As you can see Mercury's past is very mysterious. Does anyone have any questions so far?
Emily: Is Mercury dangerous?
Teacher: Good question. Yes, it's a violent poison.
Taylor: I have a question too! If Mercury is considered dangerous how is it important to us in any way?
Teacher: Good question. Mercury is important to us because it is used in laboratories for making Thermometers, Barometers, and *Diffusion pumps just as Johnny named.
Darren: Is Mercury still in our Thermometers?
Teacher: No, they took all the Mercury out of them because it is too dangerous. Okay I will take 2 more questions then move on.
Ben: Is Mercury a metel?
Teacher: Yes, Mercury is a metal. Okay, please save your questions until I am done.
Teacher: Now, I will name some Cool facts about Mercury. Mercury is called "quick silver" because it flows easily and rapidly. In ancient times, Chinese emperors used to drink Mercury for long life, but it had a opposite effect.
Darren: Well that's stupid. You don't see people today drinking Mercury for long life.
Teacher: Today people don't do that because our technology is more advanced than the ancient times. And people are smart enough to see if any product has poison in it, it would have a skull and a x through it.
Teacher: Lets go back to Mercury's cool facts. Mercury is one of the elements that has a *Alchemical symbol. Mercury is a liquid at room temperature. Here's a picture of mercury's symbol.
Teacher: Now everyone it's going to get a little confusing, so stay with me. The top the of the picture or "moon" means free thinking. It means he or she will think about their own opinion and not worry about others. The circle mean it's making ideas real that are passed down by the moon. The plus sign mean all the ideas that are passed through the circle and the moon are going to take action, in other words it's all going to become real. This picture, you could say it's a thinking process.
Darren: When you think of it like that, it's pretty cool.
Teacher: Yes it is, is anybody confused of what I said?
Ben: I am, so does that mean the symbol or the picture of mercury is actually a picture of how we think in a way?
Teacher: Yes, in a way it is. Okay there are only 2 mins of class left, so listen well. I will name some Physical Properties of mercury. Mercury is a heavy metal and the color is silvery white. One item that has mercury in it that you haven't said, is the street lights on the highways. That has *Mercury vapor
Emily: That's cool I didn't know that had Mercury in it.
Teacher: Okay class it's the end of class. Please pack your stuff and head out.
(Class:OK!! )

Mercury can evaporate and create invisible ,toxic odorless vapors when it comes in contact with with air.If Mercury is spilled in your house ,the toxic vapors will spread in your house and can cause serious health damage to children and babies.
Here are 2 other products that have Mercury in it:
This is a old Mercury tanning lamp that was probably made around the 50-60s. This mercury lamp has A LOT of mercury in it. It has a cubic centimeter, which is a lot more than the typical Mercury bulb.
