Palladium
William H. Wollaston
|
William Wollaston Chemist William Wollostan is the man who discovered Palladium. He discovered Palladium in 1803. William discovered Palladium when he was examining the residues of Plutonium after dissolving it in aqua regia, which is a concentrated solution of hydrochloric and nitric acids. After that he then isolated Palladium in a series of chemical reactions, which created Palladium cyanide he then heated the Palladium cyanide to get Palladium metal.

The Catalyst
These are 4 items that contain the element palladium. There is a catalytic converter.(first picture). There is electric contacts.(second picture).Surgical Equipment.(third picture) and last and most commonly used is the catalyst. It is also used to protect a lot of things metals from corrosion. kind of like a forcefield. Now since the most commonly used item with palladium is a catalyst we shall explain it .A catalyst is a thing that speeds up the amount of time for a chemical reaction, but does not effect or become part of the reaction. The reason that it doesn't become part of the chemical reaction is because palladium is very resistant to many acids, making it perfect for a catalyst.

Importance
Palladium is very important in our society. One important use the catalyst. As we all know now the catalyst speeds up the chemical reactions,so maybe some chemical reactions need to faster to function correctly.Maybe we needed something to happen urgently for an emergency so we used the catalyst. The catalyst is very helpful and important in science.Another important thing that palladium does is be in surgical tools. For if not for those many people would've died because they needed surgery and we had no surgical equipment.
